Frequently Asked Questions
What treatments does the CoolTouch VARIA™ laser provide?
The CoolTouch VARIA is used for the treatment of surface veins and for the treatment
of unwanted hair. In addition, the VARIA has
a new continuous mode that is used for
skin tightening. Plus, when skin cooling is desired, the VARIA uses a cryogen
spray to provide cooling and protection to the skin.
Who performs the treatment?
That depends on state regulations and standards of practice in your area. However,
with proper training, treatments can be performed by ancillary heath care staff
under physician supervision, where allowed.
Can it treat all skin types and colors?
Yes, since the CoolTouch VARIA is 1064nm Nd:YAG long pulse laser system; it has
low absorption in melanin (the pigment that colors skin and hair) making it the
best choice for treating all skin types, including tanned skin.
How long does it take to do a treatment?
Treatment sessions for veins are generally set for a fixed amount of time, usually
20-30 minute sessions. Hair removal treatment times depend on the treatment area
size and can range from 15-30 minutes for small areas and up to an hour or more
for large treatment areas such as a man’s back.
What size veins can I treat?
The CoolTouch VARIA laser has a widest range of spot sizes, pulse widths and power
available in a single laser system. The VARIA is used to treat the complete range
of vessels from the smallest 0.1mm telangiectasias to larger reticular veins, up
to 2-3 mm.
How many treatments does it take to see results for vein treatments?
The number of treatments can vary based on several factors including the size and
depth of the vein. Usually multiple treatments (2-5) are require to produce pleasing
results.
How does skin tightening with the VARIA work?
The CoolTouch VARIA produces a wavelength (1064 nm) with deep penetration to heat
sub-dermal tissue, using a large spot size with a unique method of monitoring the
temperature of the skin for increased safety and comfort. The VARIA also has the
option of cryogen cooling for improved patient comfort of the skin immediately post
treatment.
Non-ablative techniques for laser skin treatments such as the VARIA have been well
documented in the medical literature. While not all of the mechanisms are clearly
understood, it is suggested that this heating of the sub-dermal tissues causes a
cellular response that initiates healing mechanisms leading to increased collagen
production. The result of this collagen production over time is an improvement and
tightening in skin texture and reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.
